Scenary of maineIn this section, we will be covering

  • Legal Framework for Responsibilities & Task Assignments
  • Appointment, Duties and Limits to Duties
  • Preparation For the Basic Work

Local Health Officers (LHOs) have four primary job roles.

  • Overall health resource to the community
  • Mediator-problem solver
  • Investigator-enforcer
  • Reporter to: Board of Selectman/City Council on community’s public health status, MAINE CDC, DHHS on any perceived local public health threats

We will go over these basics by touching on Maine law as it relates to LHOs. One main idea of this section is that there are LHO mandatory duties as well as LHO implied duties. Implied duties involve the authority to carry out a duty but with no requirement to do so.

There is a lot of resource related material in this section – you don’t have to memorize it as you read. The goal is for you to become acquainted with the basics and know where to check for information.

Section Three should take approximately 90 minutes
