Follow up and follow through

You need to use “due process” which involves reminding the owner of the timetable.

“Due process” is defined as “an established course for judicial proceedings designed to safeguard the legal rights of the individual.”

  • When you return to your office, discuss the situation with the CEO (or other individual). 
  • Next, use your notes to create a letter using the format as shown in the LHO Manual – there's a link on the right.
  • Have the Chair of Selectmen/Town or City Manager sign if possible.
  • It’s key to keep the Chair of Selectmen/Town or City Manager current as to the situation. If you have to go to court, they will have to support this effort.
  • Keeping a computer copy allows you to use it as a model for future letters.
